Focuses on the portrayal and treatment of religion in popular culture (books, movies, television shows, etc).
My webpage project is designed to outline Philip Pullman and his religious beliefs that he portrays through His Dark Materials. It focuses on The Golden Compass, which is the first book in the trilogy and was made into a movie. I will be covering the Religious based themes/ ideas presented and what their meanings are and how it deals with Pullmans views on religion, the concerns parents have for their children that read His Dark Materials, and if The Golden Compass is in fact trying to be “Anti- religious”/ “Anti- Christianity” (if Pullman is trying to corrupt others minds) or if it simply a way for another person to describe their opinion on religion. I may also discuss the comparison between Pullman’s work and C.S. Lewis’ (author of the Chronicles of Narnia). There is research done on each topic that will include opinions of others, my own (mostly), and Pullman himself. The main focus is going to be on the entire Controversy. I have also included a plot of the movie, some pictures from the movie, the actual compass symbols and their meanings, and a short bibliography of Philip Pullman the author on the webpage.
